Check Offs

For my Fundamentals of Nursing class, every week
we learn new practical skills that we'll use in the
hopsital. I have a lab from 8-12 on Mondays and a
lecture every week as well. Then, sometime throughout
the week, we have to sign up to come in and practice
then demonstrate the skills for the lab assisstants.
They're call check offs. On Mondays, we check off
with our professors as well. We've learned a lot so far-
from removing sutures and staples to maintaining a
sterile field to wound dressings. This week, we
check off on nasogastric intubation and foley
catheterization. Christy and I took some pictures
while we were practicing, so you can see into our
little nursing world!
Our "patient" :) He's not very responsive...

Practicing with the NG models

We use these models to practice nasogastric tube
intubation. With them, we can see the path it
takes down to the stomach.

Dinner with My Clinical Group

Last week, the girls my clinical group from last semester
and I all went out to dinner! It was great to have a chance
to see evryone and catch up after break. We went
to a really neat restaurant in downtown Lynchburg
call the Depot Grill. It's right by the train tracks
and made to look like a train station.

80's Night

On our dorm, we have a hall meeting every Tuesday at 10 for
our RAs to go over announcements and let us know what's
going on around campus. Occassionally, they pick a theme and
we all dress up. Last week's theme
was 80's night, which we definitely had fun with!

Awesome Christmas Present!

Over Christmas break, my friend and prayer group member, Jamie,
painted this picture for me! It is so gorgeous- I was amazed! Isn't she talented??
I love it! It's hanging up on my wall, and we always say we wish we could
climb right into it and be at the beach instead of going to classes. :)

Painting Lesson

Well, over break, it was been brought to my attention that I don't blog regularly enough
for a few of my faithful followers. :) So, my new year's resolution is to stay on top
of blogging so I can keep in touch with everyone back home! The first few weeks
of classes have been busy getting back into the swing of things, but it's been really
good to visit and catch up with friends. Now it's time to catch up on studying!
This is what I did with a little free time:
Jamie gave Lisa, Anglea, and I a little painting lesson! It was a ton
of fun (minus a little paint spill and clean up! lol) and very relaxing.
This is the finished product- my first real painting!

I was practicing my palm tree painting:
